Friday, February 23rd, 2007.  Cork Airport is delighted to announce that Budget Travel will offer a new service to Greek holiday island, Corfu, this summer. The new service will begin on May 18th and continue until September 28th, operating weekly each Friday.

“We are delighted to welcome Budget Travel’s new summer sun destination operating from Cork Airport,” said Kevin Cullinane, Marketing Manager, Cork Airport.  “The holiday island of Corfu has something for everyone, with numerous lively resorts offering sun, sea and water-based pursuits, the charming cobbled streets and Italian architecture of Corfu town and the rugged beauty of the West coast of the island,” concluded Mr. Cullinane.

Corfu has a genuine sense of timelessness and visitors seem to revel in the laid back and relaxing lifestyle. Nothing is done in a hurry here. The pace of life is slow and the lethargic mood is helped along by balmy warm temperatures where any movement seems like a waste of energy!

Naturally, the resorts are a different scene altogether. Sun, sea and sandy beaches abound, lively tavernas and music pubs are all on offer for the visitor along the length of the east coast. The western part of the island is slightly more rugged, but also has one of the most beautiful beaches at Paleokastritsa and a heavenly little monastery with brilliant whitewashed walls and jewel coloured bougainvillea in abundance.

An excursion worth its salt is a boat trip to the neighbouring island of Paxos. Well known to the sailing fraternity as it is often included in flotilla itineraries, Paxos is pretty in chocolate box style cuteness, all blue and white with dinky local tavernas serving fresh fish. Back on the mainland, Mouse Island is another unusual spot with a tiny monastery surrounded by ocean and accessible by a narrow pathway.

Corfu is full of genuine treasures, some hidden and some, like the lovely people, the beautiful countryside and aquamarine sea, are easily discovered but difficult to forget.
