The airline will take delivery of 32 new aircraft in total
Wednesday, May 16th, 2007. Wizz Air, Central & Eastern Europe's largest low cost-low fare airline, has just taken delivery of the first of its new 32 A320 aircraft. The aircraft features the all new family cabin, giving passengers more space and a quieter travel experience.
This newly delivered aircraft will be based in Katowice and another will be based in Gdansk meaning that passengers using Wizz Air's Cork Katowice and Cork Gdansk services will have the opportunity to travel on the new aircraft.
Wizz Air expects to operate 53 aircraft by 2011. With aircraft deliveries planned over the next five years this will ensure that the airline continues to operate one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the world. The airline operates flights from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania to 50 destinations on close to 90 routes. The airline carried 3 million passengers in 2006.
Mr. József Váradi, Chief Executive, Wizz Air, said: "We are committed to the IAE powered Airbus aircraft which has been a significant pillar of our success to-date. Our A320 fleet allows us to achieve the lowest unit cost in the region while maintaining operational reliability and customer service excellence. This aircraft not only provides the highest efficiency but gives us an extra edge in superior cabin comfort for our passengers. We continue to pursue our quest to become the single largest airline in Central & Eastern Europe, both in terms of fleet size and passenger numbers," said József Váradi, Chief Executive of Wizz Air.
"Wizz Air, Central & Eastern Europe's successful low cost carrier, proves us right with their choice of the A320. The airline bases its operation on the best selling single aisle aircraft family, thus showing its dedication to providing its passengers with the latest Airbus technology. Par of Airbus' non-stop innovation, the A320 featuring the new cabin offers the lowest operating cost for highest passenger comfort," said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customer Service.
The new A320 cabin effectively enhances levels of passenger comfort. The new design provides more space at shoulder level, 15% more overhead stowage volume and a measurable noise reduction in the cabin. These benefits go hand in hand with state-of-the-art design features. Furthermore, material weight reduction in the cabin makes the aircraft more fuel efficient, a benefit in terms of operational costs and environmental impact.
Over 5,000 Airbus A320 aircraft have been sold in total and over 3,000 of these delivered to more than 180 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world's best selling aircraft type ever.
