divider

Thursday, May 17th, 2007. Cork Airport management is delighted to announce that one million passengers have travelled through the Airport in the first twenty weeks of 2007.  This figure is in line with growth projections that will see over three million people fly through Cork Airport again this year.

“We’re delighted to see ever increasing passenger numbers availing of the sixty four destinations available through Cork Airport at present and to receive the one millionth passenger of the year”, commented Cork Airport Marketing Manager, Kevin Cullinane.

“Everyone at Cork Airport is immensely proud of the ongoing growth in passenger numbers and it shows our customers have huge confidence in the expanded range of destinations now being served from Cork Airport courtesy of our Airline partners and Tour Operators,” he added.

Passengers travelling from Cork Airport this summer are reminded of a number of important changes that haven take place since last year.

New Terminal
All flights, Departures and Arrivals operate from the New Terminal at Cork Airport! Passengers are reminded that the old terminal closed last August and is no longer in operation.

Check In
Summertime is a very busy time at Cork Airport so in anticipation of the higher volumes of passengers going through the airport, the airport management advises that you plan your trip in advance. Check the times of your departure and please note that most flights open for check-in 2 hours before the flight and many will close 40 minutes before departure to allow passengers time to clear security. Scheduled airlines advise passengers to check in 90 minutes before their departure time and at least 2 hours 30 minutes before chartered flights. Aer Lingus offers self-service kiosks at the airport and passengers may check in online with Aer Lingus, Aer Arann and Ryanair if they availed of this option at booking.

Car Parking
Check the overhead gantry signs for directions to the Long and Short Term Car Parks. The main Long Term Car Park is reached by staying in the outside lane of the approach road to the new terminal and proceeding past the new Multi-Storey Short-Term Car Park at the northern end of the airport. The car park in front of the old terminal is now used as the second Long-Term Car Park and is connected to the front of the new terminal by a pedestrian tunnel.

The short-term car park is located in the Multi-Storey Car Park adjacent to the Terminal Building and must be used by those meeting or seeing off passengers.

The road outside the Terminal Building is a set-down area only, to facilitate people being dropped to the airport and the quick unloading of baggage. Due to the high volume of traffic using Cork Airport this summer and in the interest of good traffic management, vehicles are not permitted to wait for arriving passengers outside the Terminal Building.  Unattended vehicles will be moved on and the policy of clamping unattended vehicles is rigorously enforced at Cork Airport.

Baggage
Strict limits apply for checked-in and cabin baggage. Many scheduled airlines now charge for each piece of checked-in luggage. These fees are cheaper if you pay when you book online and help to avoid queues at the Airline Ticket Desks at the airport. Passengers are also advised to carry just ONE piece of hand luggage. Please remember to remove all sharp items from your hand luggage.  Cork Airport Security staff will not allow you to carry any sharp items in your hand luggage. Items most frequently found include: scissors, tweezers, tools, knitting needles, knives, darts, household cutlery, razor blades, etc. In order to facilitate the efficient operation of Cork Airport's passenger security process, passengers are asked to remove outer jackets and belts, before they approach the screening machines. Lap top computers must be removed from their cases and opened to reveal the keyboard.

New EU Restrictions
New European Union rules limit the amount of liquids, gel and aerosols that are allowed in hand luggage to 100ml containers.  These items must be carried in a resealable transparent plastic bag (1 litre maximum capacity) with only one (1) bag per passenger and must be presented separately at the security area. This rule applies to ALL flights and destinations, both domestic and international. Exceptions to the rule are Medicines and Baby food needed during the flight.

Please aim to pack toiletries containing liquids, lotions and gels in your checked in baggage.

Passports
Passengers are reminded to bring their Passports with them and to ensure they are valid for at least 6 months after their due return flight.
