Additional capacity also announced on the existing Cork/Prague service
Thursday, May 17th, 2007. Cork Airport Management is delighted to welcome today’s announcement by Aer Lingus that it plans to introduce a new service from Cork to Munich for Winter 2007. The airline announced a special introductory one-way fare of €29, excluding taxes and charges, on the new route.
The announcement of the new Munich service also confirmed increased capacity on its Cork to Prague service for Winter 2007, with plans to operate three flights a week.
“This is excellent news from Aer Lingus and undermines their commitment to expand from Cork Airport. We are delighted to be able to support this new route through the Cork Airport New Route Support Scheme. Munich is one of Germany’s most vibrant cities, an important business centre and an ideal city break destination. As such it is a perfect match with Cork. We are confident both cities will prove immensely popular with passengers, both here and in Germany and will provide a real boost to the city’s tourism industry.” Said Cork Airport Marketing Manager, Kevin Cullinane. “We look forward to working with Aer Lingus to ensure the success of this new route and welcome their announcement of further increased frequencies on the Prague and Manchester routes as well,” he added.
Announcing a number of new routes from Dublin and Cork Airports today, Aer Lingus Chief Executive, Dermot Mannion said, “The introduction of these new routes reaffirms Aer Lingus’ commitment to providing direct, low fare access for Irish customers to new destinations as well as providing real growth opportunities in inbound tourism from emerging markets. The delivery of two new short haul aircraft allows us to strengthen and grow our short haul network. With over 60 direct services from Ireland to Europe, including popular sun, city break and business destinations, this development offers our customers more choice, greater flexibility and an enhanced travel experience”.
Today’s announcement also confirmed that Manchester will operate four times weekly, Lanzarote twice weekly and Tenerife once weekly for the forthcoming Winter season (October 2007 to March 2008) from Cork Airport.
