Monday, May 28th, 2007. Cork Airport management is
delighted to confirm it will sponsor this year’s Cork Midsummer Festival, which
takes place from June 19th to June 30th. The Festival is always a tantalizing
prospect for children and this year is no different, offering a huge range of
events for all the family.
“2007 is going to be the biggest
and best Midsummer Festival yet for Cork and the community we serve. It's free,
it's fun, it's for families and will give the thousands of tourists who visit us
an extra special opportunity to experience something different," announced Kevin
Cullinane, Cork Airport Marketing Manager.
The highlight of the
Children’s programme will be ‘The Lord Mayor’s Picnic in the Park’ and will
feature a host of festivities on Sunday, June 24th in Fitzgerald’s Park from 1pm
to 5pm. With boat rides and street performances, not to mention face
painting and clowns, it is sure to be one of the highlights of the
festival!
After a sell out run at the 2005 and 2006 Edinburgh
Festivals, Laura Black and Feri Tezcan bring their brand new show “Silly Billy
Bum Breath” to the Cork Midsummer Festival. The show will involve girls being
thrown into jail for crimes against good behaviour, prompted by their eponymous
imaginary friend. Hilarious stories, characters and flashbacks of their previous
adventures with the naughty Mr. Bum Breath.
One of Shandon’s
favourite sons and one of Cork’s most beloved storytellers, Pat Speight has
stories to make you laugh, to make you cry and to scare and cheer.
Specialising in traditional Irish tales, Pat’s stories are sure to include
saints and sinners, witches and magicians, ghosts, fairies and many more
mythical characters to inspire and captivate both young and
old.
World famous wacky scientist Professor Blastov tells you
everything you need to know about space from BIG BAND to BLAST OFF in Blind
Summit’s acclaimed show ‘THE SPACEMAN’. Packed with science, drawing, adventure
and fun, ‘THE SPACEMAN’ tells the story of Bud, a boy who wants to become a
Spaceman and blasts off in search of space monsters.
The
Spiegeltent, back on the River Lee, will be packed with events again this year,
with Cork favourites Frank and Walters, John Spillane, Mick Flannery and the
Sultans of Ping, as well as cabaret with Camille O’Sullivan and Karen Egan,
concerts by Julie Feeney, Barb Jungr, Karen Casey and Kila, dance nights for the
young and old, the not-to-be-missed ‘Sing Along A Sound of Music’ and much more
to keep you entertained well into the night.
The Shandon Street
Festival will also bring two days of street entertainment, including a food
fair, running alongside the Festival, so there really is no excuse not to take
the whole family out to enjoy the fun!
Bookings for all the events
can be made through the Cork Midsummer Festival Box Office, Patrick Street,
