Tuesday, May 29th, 2007. Central and Eastern Europe's largest low cost-low fare airline, Wizz Air, today announced details of a second sale and lease back agreement with GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS). The deal involves the sale and lease back of four new Airbus A320 aircraft which will be delivered next year. This announcement complements a similar arrangement already in place between Wizz Air and GECAS for the sale and leaseback of aircraft.
József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: "We are delighted to be working with GECAS again. The fact that GECAS is increasing its stake in Wizz is the confirmation of their confidence in the prospects for our business. The new aircraft deliveries underpin our growth plans in Central and Eastern Europe."
"GECAS is very pleased to be expanding our business relationship with Wizz Air so soon after our original transaction," said Declan Hartnett, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager, Europe for GECAS. "The Central and Eastern European airline and airports market continues to expand and we are well-positioned to support that growth."
The new A320 aircraft are part of an order Wizz Air recently placed with Airbus Industries for up to 44 new A320 family aircraft. The first of the new aircraft will be based in Katowice and another in Gdansk meaning passengers using Wizz Air's Polish service from Cork to Katowice and Gdansk will have the opportunity to travel on the new aircraft.
Wizz Air expects to operate 53 aircraft by 2011. With further aircraft deliveries planned over the next five years, this will ensure that the airline continues to operate one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the world. The airline operates flights from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania to 48 destinations on 90 routes. The airline carried 3 million passengers in 2006.
Wizz Air operates a three times weekly service from Cork to the popular Polish destinations of Gdansk and Katowice. Further information and booking details are available at www.wizzair.com
