Sunday, July 15th, 2007. Wizz Air is celebrating its first anniversary of
operations at Cork Airport.
The airline's first flight from Cork
Airport took off on July 14th last year to Katowice in Poland. The airline
subsequently added a service to Gdansk and currently operates a three-times
weekly service to Katowice and Gdansk. The airline has carried over 64,000
passengers between Cork and Poland (Gdansk and Katowice) since it commenced
operations in July last year.
"Wizz Air provided Cork
Airport with our first direct connection to Poland and it has proved a success
with passengers travelling in both directions as Cork, Katowice and Gdansk are
all popular destinations. We are delighted to celebrate the route's first
birthday and hope the service will continue to go from strength to strength into
the future. Wizz Air offers excellent service as a low cost carrier operating on
these Polish routes and provides a friendly and efficient service," said Kevin
Cullinane, Cork Airport's Marketing Manager.
Natasa Kázmér, Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs said: "We
are glad to celebrate the first anniversary of our Cork-Katowice route. The
passenger numbers proved that there is an ever increasing demand for low fare
routes between Ireland and Poland. The air links allows Irish passengers to
discover Southern Poland and the Northern coast of the country, both being rich
in historical sites as well as beautiful nature. We are pleased to be able to
work with Cork Airport and continue to offer low fares to our
passengers."
In May of this year, Wizz Air took delivery of the
first of its 32 new A320 aircraft. The aircraft features the all-new family
cabin, giving passengers more space and a significantly smoother travel
experience. Wizz Air expects to operate 53 aircraft by 2011. With further
aircraft deliveries over the next five years, this will ensure that the airline
continues to operate one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the
world.
