One of the main highlights of the Cork Airport sponsored family programme will be The Lord Mayor’s Picnic in the Park. This event is expected to attract in excess of 10,000 people to Fitzgerald’s Park. The Picnic will kick start the Midsummer Festival on Sunday, June 15th, with an array of activities. The free event will feature fun for all the family with face-painting, music, boat trips up the Lee and delicious food.
"Quality access to the performing arts is at the centre of this year’s Cork Midsummer Festival and Cork Airport, as the international gateway for the South of Ireland, is proud to support this year’s Family Programme", said Kevin Cullinane, Cork Airport Marketing Manager. "Cork Airport is an active corporate citizen in terms of our ongoing commitments to Cork society on local, national and international levels, through our support of arts, culture, the environment and sport", he added.
Cork Midsummer Festival will also feature The Irish Examiner sponsored Spiegeltent, which will be located in Emmet Place and will host an array of experiences to whet the appetite. Legendary krautrock band Faust will make their first highly anticipated appearance in Ireland this year as well as a return performance from Cork’s favourite Camille. The Irish Examiner Spiegeltent will also host the cabaret variety show The Last Resort, where the audience meet the artists and new talents are found.
The full Cork Midsummer Festival 2008 programme will be available from May 15th, with regular Festival updates available online from the newly launched Midsummer Festival website: www.corkmidsummer.com <http://www.corkmidsummer.com>
