Some of the festive activities taking place include; ice-skating in Little
Island, the pantomime at the Opera House along with caroling and concerts in
various locations throughout the City that will combine to guarantee a truly
special Christmas break.
"In terms of Christmas shopping, Cork is still the biggest and most popular
destination in our catchment area," said Cork Airport’s Aviation Marketing
Manager, Kevin Cullinane. "Every year we see a surge in leisure travelers though
Cork Airport in December especially of people traveling to Cork to visit friends
and relatives and enjoy all the Cork city region has to offer. This year the
range and depth of reasons to come to Cork is even bigger and better than ever
before and with ten flights a day from Dublin the excuse to head to Cork has
never been easier. As our regular customers can testify, Cork Airport is as
simple as it could be for ease of access to all that Cork has to offer this
festive season and into the January sales and beyond,” he added.
This Christmas will also see Peter Kelly of ‘Weddings by Franc’ fame
design a Park of Dreams in Bishop Lucey Park. Kelly is sure to bring his
style and vision to the project that will see one of the city centres most
visited parks become a magical festive wonderland. The ‘Park of Dreams’
will be an interactive experience for visitors who will be brought through the
Park by various Disney characters.
Cork will join the ranks of its continental neighbours Berlin, Prague and
Basle with this year’s Christmas Markets planned for the Grand Parade.
Running over three weekends from December 5th to 22nd the markets will bring a
real festive feel to the city centre.
Liz Mc Avoy of the Cork Marketing Partnership said, “Cork is a magical place
at Christmas, a compact city centre of great warmth, character and charm
offering great shops, fabulous restaurants, bars and nightclubs and wonderful
luxury hotels, alongside the contrasting peace and relaxation of county
towns. Add to this that Cork Airport is just 15 minutes’ drive from the
city centre and a new hourly train schedule on the Dublin to Cork line and you
appreciate why Cork has become the perfect destination for Christmas
breaks.”
The Christmas spirit in the City created by its citizens will transform Cork
into a festive location not to be missed. Easy access through Cork Airport
or by road or rail means getting to Cork has never been easier.
Visitors can plan their trip by logging onto www.cometocork.com/christmas a
dedicated website of the Cork Marketing Partnership. Once you log on you will
see the luxury accommodation, world-class restaurants and the host of events
match the festive spirit of Cork and its people.
