Cork Airport World First To Launch Flight Tracking Feature On Airport App

Jan 07, 2015

Cork Airport has launched an exciting new flight tracking feature on its app. The airport is the first airport in the world to offer this feature with Flightradar24, which will allow passengers to click on a flight number and track live updates of exactly where the plane is at that moment in time.
The flight tracking feature will show the aircraft’s route, speed, type of aircraft, altitude, distance travelled and total distance to destination. Additional features include a live map of flights in and out of Cork Airport in real time which can be filtered by arrivals and departures.
App users will be able to see how far a departed flight has travelled to Malaga for example. The user will also see where the plane from Malaga is, once it has departed the Spanish airport. This updated flight tracking feature now makes it even easier for passengers to plan their journey to and from the airport.
Speaking about the new flight tracking feature, Kevin Cullinane, Head of Communications, Cork Airport said, “We are delighted to launch the new flight scanning feature on our app. To be the first airport in the world to introduce this innovative feature is a fantastic achievement and is a further example of Cork Airport’s commitment to providing a world-class customer experience for every passenger using the airport.

“Last year we became the first airport in Ireland to make Google Indoor maps available for all public areas of Cork Airport and in 2015 we will continue to innovate and introduce new initiatives to maintain the world-class customer experience for which we are known.”
The free Cork Airport app which was launched earlier last year, is the essential guide to the full range of services available at the airport. In addition to the new flight tracking feature, the app features live bus and coach departure times, live arrivals and departures information, car park booking, integrated maps and details of all of the retail and catering outlets within the terminal.

The app also includes links to airport shopping services with all the latest offers from The Loop. It provides current weather details at Cork Airport, as well as live weather reports for all destinations.
The updated Cork Airport App is available to download free in the iTunes and Google Play stores.

Cork Airport is the international gateway to the south of Ireland, connecting Munster to the world. Welcoming over 6,000 passengers a day and more than 11,000 passengers a day in peak season, it is the country’s second busiest international airport after Dublin. More than 2.2 million passengers travel through the airport each year, flying to over 50 destinations across the UK and throughout continental Europe.

Cork Airport was voted best in the world for passenger satisfaction in the ACI Regional Airport survey in summer 2013 and was winner of the inaugural Irish Aviation Award for Customer Service in 2014.
