Cork city is preparing for a five-day feast as the popular “Cork on a Fork Fest” kicks off next Wednesday, August 13. Over the course of the five days, the city will celebrate the diverse, unique, and authentic gastronomy that Cork – the food capital of Ireland – has to offer. The festival, organised by Cork City Council in partnership with local hospitality businesses and chefs, is now in its 4th year and Cork Airport is proud to support this celebration of food through the airport’s Community Fund.
The extensive programme includes a huge range of food-themed events, including exclusive dining experiences, expert cookery demonstrations, chef collaborations, food trails, tours and tastings, workshops, talks and family-oriented events. Some highlights of this year’s Cork on a Fork Fest include free, expert food demonstrations at the Festival Marquee on Emmet Place (throughout the festival); the VQ Shared Table on MacCurtain Street (Wednesday, August 13 - sold out); small producers market at St. Peter’s on North Main Street; “Bread, Beef and Butter” at The Butter Museum (Friday, August 15) and the “Feastival” on Princes Street (Sunday, August 17).
Cork Airport is proud to be festival partner with the “Cork on a Fork Fest” through its Community Fund. The airport champions local, artisan food producers with an extensive range of produce on sale at Cork Airport Duty Free. In showcasing the wide variety of quality food products from the region, visitors departing from Cork Airport can bring a “taste of Cork” home with them – including iconic Cork foods like Clonakilty black pudding, Tom Durcan’s spiced beef, Barry’s Tea, Ballymaloe relish, Durrus cheeses, Good’s smoked salmon and Folláin jams, along with many locally produced gins, whiskeys and liqueurs.
Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport said: “Cork Airport is thrilled to be a partner of ‘Cork on a Fork Fest’, supported through our Community Fund. We never take for granted, the importance of quality food to the visitor experience and with over 60% of Irish artisan producers located in the wider Cork region, we are proud of that heritage. We commend Cork City Council for this food festival, which has now formed an important part of the visitor calendar for our region.”
Thanking Cork Airport for its support of the festival, Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Fergal Dennehy added: “I would like to sincerely thank Cork Airport for their support of our food festival, Cork on a Fork Fest, through the airport’s community fund. As the gateway to our city and region, Cork Airport offers an exceptional welcome and hospitality experience to all who arrive, setting the tone for the vibrant culture and food scene we’re so proud of here in Cork.
