Cork Airport is ready to welcome 61,500 passengers this May Bank Holiday weekend. With the summer schedule now underway, the busiest day of the weekend for both arrivals and departures will be Friday, May 1. The May Bank Holiday follows swiftly on a very busy Easter bank holiday and passengers travelling this weekend are advised to arrive at least 90 minutes before their flight is due to depart. Passengers are also recommended to prebook their car parking in advance to secure a space and to avail of the best rates.
This Saturday, Cork Airport’s newest route will take off as Aer Lingus start a new, twice-weekly service to Nice on the French Riviera. Flying every Wednesday and Saturday, the Nice route establishes yet another important link between Cork and France. In total, Cork Airport will offer direct connections to five French destinations this summer – Paris Charles de Gaulle (Air France), Paris Beauvais (Ryanair), La Rochelle (Ryanair), Carcassonne (Ryanair) and Bordeaux (Aer Lingus).
As May traditionally ushers in the start of a busy summer, other seasonal services resuming this month include Alghero/Sardinia (Ryanair), Bordeaux (Aer Lingus), Palma de Mallorca (Aer Lingus), Rhodes (Ryanair) and Zadar (Ryanair) – all in time for the surge in travel in late May as post-primary schools break for holidays.
Over the coming days, hundreds of chorists and other performing artists will touch down ahead of the Cork International Choral Festival. Now celebrating its 71st year, the festival attracts over 5,000 performers – from Ireland and abroad - for five days of song in 90 venues citywide.
Niall MacCarthy, Managing Director at Cork Airport said: “As the May Bank Holiday weekend approaches, summer is now in full swing at Cork Airport. It’s great to see our airport so busy and the capital programme now underway will provide the airport infrastructure for the next ten years of growth.”
“Ahead of a busy bank holiday weekend, we recommend passenger to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before their flight and most importantly, to prebook their carparking online on corkairport.com where the best value and rates can be found across all three of our car parks.”
