Things to do here

Poznań prides itself on its long history as a regional economic centre and its plentiful supply of beautiful old buildings including the Royal Castle and Poznań Cathedral clearly illustrate just how important the city was for hundreds of years. Today, the city’s vibrancy also comes from its famous universities and a young population that likes to go out.

To Eat

  1. Papierówka - A family owned casual restaurant that offers a contemporary take on the regional cuisine in a bright informal space.

  2. Concordia Taste is a part of the Concordia Design centre, offering modern food in a post-industrial space, with changing chefs and an emphasis on the freshest local ingredients.

To Stay

Poznań Cathedral Tour

Poznań Cathedral is at the heart of Ostrów Tumski or Cathedral Island. Formally known as the St Peter & Paul Cathedral, the original building was erected in 968 but has been destroyed, rebuilt, and remodelled over the years. During the 1945 battle to liberate Poznań, 65% of the Cathedral burnt down, exposing the building’s buried Gothic elements and leading to its restoration in the Gothic style today.

Kaiser’s Castle Culture

This large neo-Romanesque building was constructed from 1905-1910 for German Emperor Wilhelm II. After WWI, when Poland regained its independence, the Castle housed the faculty of mathematics of Poznań University. Today it is a cultural centre.

Town Hall Museum

This imposing Gothic building is regarded as the most beautiful renaissance era structure in Wielkopolska (the larger historical province). The building now houses the museum of the history of the city of Poznań.
